Pieces of Time: The Jewish Year In Mosaic

  • MaTovu 4200 Blaine Avenue St. Louis, MO (map)

Ma Tovu - how good it can be to sit together and make something beautiful.

Inspired by the mosaic tradition of ancient synagogues, we have the opportunity to design and create a mosaic depicting the Jewish year as a journey of spiritual flow. Each holiday is related to the next in the sweep of the Jewish year.

This exercise of hiddur mitzvah (enhancing a mitzvah through beauty) will be designed both to beautify and to teach. We will create a mosaic that refers to the spirit-journey through the Jewish ritual year, engaging our heads and hands.

Join Susan Shender and Abby Bennett as we learn about ancient synagogue art and try your hand at mosaic-making on Sunday, July 9th from 1-4pm at MaTovu. The during the three sessions, we will be creating a community mosaic to be permanently installed on a table at MaTovu.

No artistic skill required! This project is most accessible to those 10 years and up. You’re invited to join for one or all three of the sessions!
