With Your Support, MaTovu has Exceeded our Capital Campaign Goal!
We did it!!! MaTovu is thrilled to announce that after more than a year of hard work, we have not only met our $750,000 Capital Campaign goal–we’ve surpassed it! To date, we’ve raised $817,000 and counting.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to our entire community who helped make this possible. Whether you donated, volunteered your time, shared MaTovu’s story, connected us with potential supporters, encouraged others to give, or contributed in countless other ways, your generosity and belief in MaTovu is why we’ve reached this moment!
This is an extraordinary milestone in MaTovu’s growth from a grassroots, volunteer-led initiative into a thriving, community-powered organization, and a powerful reflection of what our community can accomplish when we come together around a shared vision. Together, we’ve secured a permanent home for our growing Jewish community in St. Louis City and laid the foundation for a stronger, more sustainable future for MaTovu — how good it is on Blaine!
So what does exceeding our goal mean? We have now…
Purchased our building, securing a permanent Jewish home in the City
Hired our first full-time staff member, supporting our volunteer-powered community
Ensured the preservation and care for our historic building —the original Southside Hebrew Congregation synagogue—for future generations
Expanded the ways we come together, build community, and grow Jewish life rooted in being present in the City of St. Louis
Since its founding in 2018, MaTovu’s mission has been to create an inclusive Jewish space in St. Louis City that fosters connection and enriches our community’s spiritual, cultural, and social life. Just in 2025 alone, more than 1,400 participants engaged in 61 MaTovu programs and events. Our cooperative leadership structure continues to grow, with 36 members (Builders”) actively shaping our programming and operations, and a diverse network of strong community partners keeps our work deeply rooted in St. Louis City.
Creating grassroots, accessible Jewish programming: Through its community-driven model, innovative offerings, progressive values, and low barriers to entry, MaTovu engages many people who might not otherwise connect with Jewish institutions. Many participants note MaTovu’s unique and innovative programming can’t be found anywhere else in St. Louis.
Increasing Jewish connection in the City: With 22% of the region’s Jewish population (about 10,000 people) living in St. Louis City–but few Jewish institutions located there–MaTovu is helping to provide critical, place-based access to Jewish life.
Engaging young Jewish adults: As City-based Jews skew younger and more diverse–and often seek inclusive, relevant experiences outside traditional institutions–MaTovu is uniquely positioned to meet this growing need.
Building relationships across communities: By welcoming many non-Jewish participants, MaTovu fosters connections rooted in curiosity and mutual understanding, strengthening partnerships across cultures and faiths.
Exceeding our capital campaign goal allows MaTovu to continue impacting the St. Louis community by…
Celebrating Our Community’s Achievement!
MaTovu launched the public phase of our Capital Campaign in April 2026 with a joyful community gathering at MaTovu. Now, to celebrate the success of this incredible community endeavor, we invite everyone to join us once again—this time for a meaningful Havdalah in our newly purchased building! We’ll mark this milestone together, give thanks for everyone who helped make it possible, and look ahead to all that we’ll build in the years to come. Keep an eye out for more details soon!
