In December, MaTovu held space for grief and questions about Israel/Palestine and its impact on our communities. Based on significant interest in keeping this dialogue going, we are hosting a series of conversations over the next three months to help us grapple with the current moment and where we go from here.
Like with our first event, this series will be thoughtfully facilitated to ensure that all voices and experiences are heard. We also continue to recognize that the lives and wellbeing of Israelis and Palestinians are inherently intertwined. We know our community is struggling in different, sometimes contradictory ways; our hope is to lean into this impossible space together and come out stronger.
Each of the following sessions are organized around a meaningful (but loosely defined) topic to help ground our conversations. Please RSVP for as many of these sessions as you are interested in; though we hope conversations will build upon each other, please feel free to join one or all of these regardless if you were able to attend in December.
Sunday, March 10th, 3 to 5pm at MaTovu
Real and Politicized Antisemitism: Our Place Within Progressive Movements
During this session, we will grapple with pockets of antisemitism that have emerged across the movement calling for Palestinian freedom — as well as how fears of antisemitism by the Jewish community can minimize space for critiques of the state of Israel’s policies and actions. We’ll also consider this against a backdrop of rising white Christian nationalism in the U.S.
Sunday, April 14th, 3 to 5pm at MaTovu
Hereness and Thereness: Our Place Within the St. Louis Jewish Community
During this session, we will grapple with our place within our local Jewish community, how this does (and doesn't) relate to Israel/Palestine, and how to balance our identities and connections in our lives moving forward.
