Synoptic Frequencies 6

Synoptic Frequencies is a semi-regular concert series featuring experimental musicians performing in sacred spaces. We're excited to partner again with MaTovu for our sixth edition, an evening of solo performances.

Eli Winter is a guitarist and writer based in Chicago. His virtuosic playing synthesizes elements of folk, jazz, rāga, and avant-garde composition into something unique and hypnotic. Eli's self-titled album, on Three Lobed Records, has been garnering national press attention since its release last year. He is also an accomplished essayist, most recently writing about the joys and difficulties of touring life for the Los Angeles Review of Books.

Ghosts I Have Been is the sound project of Emily Hemeyer. In addition to her work as an artist, teacher, nature enthusiast, and mycologist, Emily is the founder of Spore Projects and the Wild Seed Field Museum. She describes her music as "ephemeral improvisational soundscapes conjured through accordion, bells, and ritualistic instrumentation featuring experimental vocalizations in chant-like-symbiosis".

Lex Kozieradski is an artist, teacher, and saxophonist. His playing is deeply inspired by the free jazz and free improv movements, as well as the physicality of the instrument. Lex is also the co-curator of Cunst Gallery, an exhibition space on the south side of Saint Louis.

Two Hands | One Engine is the solo project of Justin Mank. Justin uses guitars, synths, field recordings and an array of effect pedals to create lush, dreamy long-form soundscapes.

Writer, photographer, and artist Aaron Owens will be showing video work to complement the performances.
