Jewish "Pioneer" Cemeteries: Preserving the American Frontier on Apache Land

Join us for a talk with Dr. Maxwell Greenberg:

The "Jewish Pioneer" is a scholarly and popular narrative that celebrates the impact of Jewish immigrants to the process of nineteenth century Westward Expansion. Greenberg's lecture shares archival and ethnographic research conducted at two, restored Jewish cemeteries in Southern Arizona, and grapples with the entanglements between Jewish "Pioneer" memory, Frontier ideology and "Indian Removal" in the American West.
