September 21st marks two years that Alex Garcia has been living in sanctuary at Christ Church UCC in Maplewood. Alex, his family, the congregation and the community remain committed to justice. When the rights of some in America are threatened, all of our rights are threatened. We will stand with Alex until he is able to return to his daily life and a life of dignity with his family.
Please join the Interfaith Committee on Latin America on Saturday, September 21, as Alex’s wife, Carly, and supporters pilgrimage from the Robert A. Young Federal building, where the office of Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) is located, to Christ Church, where Alex Garcia is desperately waiting for a miracle.
The event will begin at about 8am with a prayer vigil outside of the federal building. Then, we will walk in prayerful pilgrimage the 7 miles back to the church. We anticipate the pilgrimage will take about 2-3 hours, and we will gather in joyful resistance with Alex and those unable to make the pilgrimage, who will wait for our arrival at the church. Food and celebration will follow as we recommit ourselves to liberation, justice and dignity.
